Fall Dining Room

Since my house, and the entire world, will soon be changing from fall to Christmas decor, I thought I would share my favorite completed room.  My dining room is probably my favorite because we don't eat in there unless we have guests, so it stays nice and neat and clean.  :)  When the rest of the house is wild, messy, and chaotic, it's nice to have a neat dining room.  That's my theory, at least.  :)  Well, also because when you walk in the front door, it's the first thing that you see.

This big chalkboard was a DIY that Ben and I did a few years ago, and it's my favorite.  We just took a big poster frame from Walmart, and painted it with chalkboard paint and chalk paint.  I don't change the verses on it as often as I would like, but I get around to it sometimes.  I love this Deuteronomy 31:6 verse so much.  <3

Ben and I laugh that this dining room hutch is our only nice piece of furniture that we've bought.  Which is pretty much true... except for our guest bed and master bed.  We get soooo many compliments on this piece, and I really do love it so so much.  I could've resold it many times, but I will hold onto this baby forever.  Anyway, everything else we have is either DIYed or gotten hand-me-down.  I just can't bring myself to spend a lot of money on furniture.  This new farm table is a DIY that our friend built for us with left over barn wood from our house.  (I will have to explain that in a later post.)  I ordered the legs from Amazon, and the bench and chairs were hand-me-downs from my cousin.  I still need to paint the legs and poly the top, but I've kept it covered with tablecloths since we've moved in.  I would love to incorporate an old church pew in here one day, but I'm holding out for one from a specific church that is very special to us.

Fall decor just makes me so happy.  I love fall colors, and that it feels casual and relaxed.  Christmas gets a little more fancy sometimes, but not fall.  The decor has to be accompanied by my favorite fall candle to be complete.  One of my best friends introduced me to this Leaves (Bath & Body Works) candle years ago, and the Walmart version (Crisp Fall Leaves) is THE BEST dupe.  I love it so much!!

Anyway, I always keep the table set.  For fall, I'm using a plaid table cloth that is just barely big enough to work, with a smaller red table cloth folded over.  The placemats are from Walmart that I've had for forever, and my every day white plates.  When I moved, I realized that I have never bought enough napkins for more than a 4 place setting, so the only ones I had to use were white.  They don't show up very good with these white plates, but whatever. I have out a mix of the bowls that go with our dishes, McCarty Pottery (in the photo below), and also 2 pottery bowls that Ben sister made for us.  A few years ago, I decided that I needed white every day dishes instead of the darker colored ones that we had, and it was the best decision.  All you need is a colorful napkin, or an accent bowl to change the look.

Every once in a while, I will get a little surprise when I walk in here.  When I took the photo above, I saw something from the corner of my eye in the next bowl over.  🤦🏻‍♀️😂  Also notice the notebook.  Last time I noticed something in the bowls, it was a little plastic fish in each one.  The joys of boys.

Well, that's all.  It will stay this way about 2 more weeks.  😆🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄  Time to break out the Christmas china.  🎉
