We went to the farm on Thursday, mostly to spend a little time with Daddy, and get out of the house for a while.
It is so so so so dry. We need rain so bad. Thankfully, we still have water to irrigate, but some farmers are already out of water. Ben and Bennett were working on irrigation, and Bennett thinks he's so big. :) Ben also gets so mad at me when I take the kids to the farm in flip flops.
This is what the girls do while the guys work... stay in the air conditioning.
One of my favorite things about going to the farm is driving down the farm lanes. Way away from the road. Way away from people. I need a cabin back there.
We saw a mama duck with her babies!!
Checking the corn...
Throughout the growing season, they go into a corn field and pick ears of corn to test. He shucks it, and counts the kernels. This will tell him an average of how much the corn will produce. Not looking too spiffy this year without rain for the dry land corn (non-irrigated).
One of the hardest things about farming is how it is never steady. It's usually either a really good year, or a really bad year. Ben and I were talking Thursday how you just have to keep your eyes on the long-term, and the big picture. When you look at it that way, a drought is just a bump in the road.
