dr. seuss-ville - bennett's 1st birthday!

when i was pregnant with bennett, i came across this photo on pinterest...
i was in love.  i pinned it, and planned on doing something with dr. seuss books at bennett's newborn photo shoot.

little did i know that bennett would be born on dr. seuss' birthday.
that picture is on the wall in our living room.  :)  and here is a preview from his first birthday photos... :)
it just seemed fitting to have his first birthday all about dr. seuss, and it was SO much fun!!  it also worked out that it fell on a saturday.  (and also, it snowed that day!)  i wanted it to be fun and special, but i also wanted it laid back and simple.  i love love love party planning, so i was in my element! :)  we just had cake and ice cream, and a few snacks that you will see.  the kids ran around and played, and the adults sat/stood around and talked.  we had a house FULL of people, and it was so much fun.  bennett is a loved little boy!
i found the invitation on etsy and had it personalized and printed from shutterfly.  i also had this insert done...
we decided that the kids needed ZERO more toys right now, and especially since we just had Christmas.  i knew that grandparents would still buy for him, and he also got several little happys that were sweet.  here was the "vitamin table."  :)  some people also brought some hot wheels for the kids.
i made tons of little 4x6 cards with seuss quotes, and stuck them around in clear plastic frames.  i also borrowed a few stuffed animals from a friend.
this was the table with party favors, and also i had bennett's birthday book for everyone to sign.
favors... lollipops and bookmarks.
the birthday boy...
i love little details about parties. flowers, ribbon, personalized things, etc.
his name banner over the doorway.  i used this at his photo shoot, and i think i will hang it in his room to enjoy for a while.
his photo banner...
before people came and things got crazy, i tried to get a photo of my 2 love bugs.  austin was so excited that it was benny boop's birthday!  :)
i tried to have kid-friendly snacks, and also tie in the theme. marshmallows was because of the lorax. goldfish was because of cat in the hat, etc.
i found the napkins on clearance. they weren't my favorite pick of what was available, but they were cheap. :) and yes, i made truffula trees. also to drink we had lemonade, and bottled coke, crush, and root beer.
i think the cake was probably the wow-factor of the party! it was a-mazing!!
i had to specifically get a photo of horton. (if you know austin, you know that horton was her imaginary friend, but she says now they aren't friends anymore. that's enough for a whole new post!)
and of course there was the smash cake...
love these people!!
waving to the crowd...
he had no clue what was going on! ha! :)
time to dig in!
silly boy...
thank you everyone for coming to celebrate with us!!!!  HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BENNETT!!
