austin - things I want you to know

I have been wanting to write a lot of these down, and i've seen  a few other similar posts lately, so I figured that it was time.  I may add to this list as things come to mind...
  • Always be a woman of your word. If you make a promise, follow through. If you say you will do something, do it.
  • Don't ever believe Cosmo or Glamour magazine. Ever. Just don't even read them. I think it wastes brain cells.
  • A firm handshake will get you places.
  • It's ok to go out in sweats and no makeup. It's life. But for the most part, take pride in the way you look. Take care of your body.
  • When you are 13+, and a guy tells you that he loves you, do NOT believe him. Do NOT say it back.
  • Always follow your instincts. If you get a bad feeling about something, run in the other direction. Your instincts and the Holy Spirit will guide you through your life. I promise.
  • When it comes to makeup, less is more. Don't ever wear dark lipstick. Don't ever put eyeliner around your entire eye. Don't wear a lot of blush.
  • You can never seek after God enough. Fall in love with Him. He will seek after you too.
  • If you like a boy, always compare him to your daddy. If you always do this, you will be ok.
  • Don't ever say that you can't cook. Anyone can cook. Follow a recipe. Try new things. (Cream cheese is good in everything.)
  • Your phone, computer, tablet, tv, etc. will not get you through life. Put them down. Turn them off. Have real conversations face to face. It's a life skill.
  • Always look people in the eyes.
  • Learn how to save money. Pray for help if you need it. And you can ask your daddy for advice.
  • Don't let other people tell you how to dress. Be yourself.
  • Your life will be what you make it. Always choose joy.
  • Life isn't fair. There are winners and losers. Things won't always go your way. Learn from your mistakes. Move on.
  • Don't ever think that you are entitled to anything because of who you are. You're not. We have to work hard and be thankful for what we have.
  • I know you will be tempted to spend a lot of time with boyfriends in high school and college. Don't. Boyfriends will come and go, but your friends will not. Invest your time in your friendships, and in other relationships. If you don't, one day you will wish that you had. Trust me.
  • You are beautiful. Nothing else too it. Don't ever think that you are not.
  • Always know that you can talk to me about anything. Even if it's weird and awkward. I promise.
  • Always live in the present tense. Live life to the fullest. Make every second count.
  • Be kind. Compassionate. Loving. Sincere. Honest. Polite. Strong. Forgiving.
  • Always say your sirs and ma'ams. You are from Mississippi. Get over it. It's who we are.
  • Shoes and accessories will complete your outfits. Don't spend too much money on clothes themselves, unless it is something classic that will never go out of style.
  • Never be afraid to speak your mind. Stand up for yourself and your loved ones. Don't be afraid of confrontation, but do it a godly way.
  • Be confident, but also stay humble.
  • Be trustworthy. Keep secrets.
  • Always keep a good, close relationship with your brother.
  • No matter where you are in life, you can always come home.
