the hospital story

we went into the hospital wednesday night, the 16th around 11:30pm.  they confirmed that my water had not broken, and my contractions slowed way down, so we were assuming after i saw the doctor thursday morning, we would be sent home again.  when dr. betcher came around thursday morning, he felt like we were ok to deliver, since that day made me 36 weeks exactly.  we were all thinking that austin would be around 5 lbs.  it was a long day!  i wasn't ever in pain until around 6 or 7pm.  we delivered at 9:28pm, and she was a full 6lbs, 15oz!  they had talked to ben and i earlier and said that since she was going to be preemie, they would let me look at her, and then take her to the nursery right away.  when she came out so big, they went on like normal and let me hold her, and us take pictures, etc.  we were moved to a mother/baby room where we spent the next 2 nights, and on the morning we thought we were getting to go home, they informed us that my blood pressure was way too high, and i needed to stay for medication through iv.  so, back to a labor and delivery room for another iv and medication for 12 hours.  austin had not yet been discharged so she was able to stay in the nursery, and come to me at feeding times.  after my medication was over, we were told that austin's bilirubin levels were too high, and she needed to stay under the lamps in the nursery for 24 to 48 hours.  if the levels didn't come down quickly, she would have to get an iv and stay longer.  my biggest fear was that they would send me home without her!  i was put back in a mother/baby room, and able to take her milk and feed her with a bottle at feeding times.  after much prayer and many tears, her levels came down and we could finally go home!  i was in the shower, so relieved and ready to go, when ben yelled at me to hurry up and get in the bed.  apparently, my blood pressure was too high and they were considering keeping us longer.  austin's 2nd set of discharge papers were torn up, her security anklet but back on, and they were considering doing more blood pressure medicine.  by this point my iv port had been removed, and i didn't feel like my hands could take any more needles so i started getting very irritated.  after a few more blood pressure checks, they decided to let us go home and keep me on blood pressure medicine.  austin has an appointment soon with her pediatrician to check her jaundice, and i have an appointment soon to check on my blood pressure.  i think with all of the stuff going on with austin in the nursery, and them constantly hounding me about my bp, it was keeping it high.  my mom took it today and it is at a normal level according to her machine.  so we will see.  here are pictures to go along with the story.  =) 6 days in the hospital is no fun!
